Itinerary
Located in the southwest of Santa Cruz Province, inside Los Glaciares National Park and about 80 km from the city of El Calafate, lies the Perito Moreno Glacier. Unique for its beauty and grandeur, this massive ice formation is born in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field and flows for about 30 km until it reaches the Magellan Peninsula. Its ice walls rise more than 60 meters above the lake level.
It is common to witness ice calving of different sizes, producing sounds comparable to thunder. The famous rupture phenomenon has made the Perito Moreno Glacier known all over the world.
The excursion starts at Puerto Moreno, located at the base of the coastal walkways, on the Canal de los Témpanos. From there, the boat quickly reaches the front of the glacier’s north face. A short stop is made in front of the area where the famous rupture usually occurs (when conditions allow), and then the navigation continues slowly along the entire length of the north wall.
During the tour, you will be able to appreciate the impressive height and extension of the ice walls and, if you are lucky, witness spectacular ice break-offs. The guide on board provides explanations about the glacier and assists passengers throughout the navigation.
