Itinerary
Estancia Cristina is considered one of the most beautiful estancias in Patagonia. Surrounded by glaciers, waterfalls, and breathtaking views of Lake Argentino, it is a must-visit for travelers in El Calafate.
The tour begins with early morning hotel pickup in El Calafate, heading toward the stunning Lake Argentino. At Puerto Punta Bandera, you will board a boat for an approximately 2-hour navigation through the lake’s North Arm toward the Upsala Channel. Along the way, massive icebergs appear unexpectedly, offering close-up views of these impressive ice formations.
The navigation reaches the panoramic area of the famous Upsala Glacier, the third-longest glacier in South America.
Upon arrival at the Estancia Cristina port, you will disembark and continue by 4×4 vehicle, traveling 9.5 km while exploring the surroundings. The route ascends the mountain, where a guided hike of about 30 minutes begins across glacial erosion terrain. The hike leads to the Upsala Glacier viewpoint, offering spectacular views.
From this privileged vantage point, there is time to admire Lake Guillermo, the imposing eastern face of the Upsala Glacier, and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
The hike continues back to the 4×4 vehicle, returning to the main area of the estancia. There will be free time to enjoy a well-deserved lunch.
After lunch, the visit continues to the Costumbrista Museum, where original objects used in the estancia are displayed, along with the history of the founding family, highlighting the role of estancias in Patagonian history.
The experience also includes a short guided walk to the Caterina River, the old mill, the chapel, and the historic main house of the estancia.
At the end of the tour, you will return to the estancia’s port and navigate back to El Calafate, bringing home unforgettable memories and photographs.
